Children have other things in mind than their own safety - they are too busy curiously exploring their surroundings and expressing their creativity.

The safe door in children daycare centres

avoiding accidents sustainably

At their age, children are scarcely aware of the dangers in their environment and are unable to recognise potential hazards. In practice, unnecessary accidents often occur with insufficiently or completely unsafeguarded doors in child daycare centres.

Our Athmer finger protection systems have proved themselves for over 30 years. They are durable and reliably prevent injuries by eliminating the danger of accidental entrapment of fingers between the closing edges of the door leaf and the door frame.

Accident prevention regulations

The legislator in Germany has recognised the hazards of becoming trapped in the gap between the door and the door frame and has issued a mandatory accident prevention regulation (UVV) to protect children.

The accident prevention regulation for child daycare centres (DGUV regulation 82, formerly GUV-V S2) formulates corresponding specifications for daycare centres which also define structural design and equipment.

As a result, § 13 (3) stipulates:

“Shearing points must be avoided on the secondary closing edges of doors.”

Besides new builds, the accident prevention regulations (UVV) concerning child daycare centres as per §30 (2) of the German Statutory Accident Insurance Association (DGUV) rule 102-002 on child daycare centres is also binding on existing daycare centres if children under the age of 3 are looked after there. The use of finger protection systems lies in principle within the responsibility of the operator of the centre. This operator decides on the basis of the  user group and the spatial conditions about the products
